Vietnam backstory: I lived and worked in Vietnam for over 3 years, in HCMC, and have been travelling there over a 13-year period from 2004 to 2017. I’ve made several visits to Hanoi, mostly on business, but also for vacation, and spent a long weekend in the Mekong Delta and a week travelling around Sa Pa in the north of the country, and spent 4 days on a junk in Halong Bay. For the most part, this was all 15+ years ago and the country has changed significantly over this period. My wife and I made several trips to Amanoi, and luxurious resort about an hour’s flight from HCMC. It’s easy to fall in love with the culture and the vibe of the country, and it remains one of my favourite countries in Southeast Asia.
